The Interview

Interviewed by admin on February 20, 2007 and has had 812 views.

Where were you born?

Kempton Park

Describe yourself in one sentence:

I am a normal man who discovered that I can do something without being perfect

What will you do if you win the lotto?

I will sow and secure. And I would definitely buy a Sanyong Korando

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see a clear picture of 12 newly planted churches in Secunda, 500 families involved in intimate churches by our ministry (Blaze) that is effectively active in Secunda.

Things that only you know about yourself?

  • One thing that might sound weird is: “I couldn’t have done this!” The people that know me well would understand this statement. I couldn’t have done anything that I have done in my life or got this far on my own, it was really only God.
  • I wrote off a go-cart when I was in matric
  • I am not a morning person at all and I am not a people person in the mornings either

What is your greatest accomplishment in life so far?

BLAZE Ministries!

What are your favorite things to do when you are alone?

Hiking, preferably with a partner. Internet chat rooms, I really enjoy that! Strategy PC games, Cycling, Paintball and my ultimate regular favorite: God time…being totally alone with God.

What is your biggest dream?

To help the church to discover youth and God.

What was your most embarrassing moment?

There’s 2 major embarrassing moments:

- I was never really a good rugby player, it was actually always embarrassing, but this one time was the ultimate embarrassment: We were battling in a scrum; I finally managed to get out with the ball! I was running with everything I had to score that try and then…I realized that I was actually running in the wrong direction! I walked backed to a very disappointed team as a whole crowd was watching me.

- A couple of friends was present when I asked my wife(Martie) out for the first time, and she said NO, I tried to handle it by saying “I don’t take no as an answer”, but she just kept on saying no, in front of everyone. I felt so stupid!

What do you think of Secunda and its people?

They have forgotten the meaning of Family and Life, but with us around it will change.

What would you do to improve the community?

I would be a genuine Christian.

What are your thoughts on young entrepreneurs in South Africa?

They would save our economy if they can learn fast and risk much

If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be and why?

Miles Monroe. He lives in a country (Which is not America) and turned it around since he was 12 years old. He introduced and brought God to this country, as they didn’t know God at all. Although he lives in this 3rd world country, which is the Bahamas, he lives and teaches those around him to live a 1st world life!

What item/s do you use the most in your day?

My palm, car and cell.

Without this you will be lost:

Definitely, my wife.

What is your favorite day of the week and why?

Thursday, I always look forward to Thursday, because Martie and myself spend alone time together on Thursday nights

Do you know the meaning of your name? Does it have any relevance to you as person?

My name means “strong and courageous as a bear” which is Kowash
This is exactly the way I am:
- a bear always protects its cubs
- A bear will never attack you, unless you come in between him and his cubs.
- A bear must always be focused, and if not he will fail in what he do.

Any inspirational words to the community…

How bad will it have to get for you to realize that you need to take God and your family serious?
I know God wants to heal the broken families, but it seems as if we love to live with it.
Not the state, nor the community can create a better Secunda…With God and us living like Christians, we can!

Thank you Bernard. It is an honor for me to be privileged to know you and to have had this opportunity to interview you, and indeed: I really know you better! Thank you for allowing us to come so close to your heart.

Instead of having an interview with Bernard I would rather like to know what Blaze stands for, what their beliefs are, why chosen a name like Blaze and where to find this church?

    Hallo Estelle

BLAZE se direkte vertaling in engels beteken. Violent outburst of passion.

    Hallo Ilana

Ek’s bly jy het die tyd gevat om dit te lees. Dankie. :)

My grootste “regret”. Ek dink nie ek het so iets nie. Ek geniet elke oomblik van my lewe.

Jy vra ‘n baie goeie vraag. Ek het gedink by nou was ons fondasie al mooi vas.

:) Ek antwoord graag enige vrae verder…….
